 City Park
Városliget

Budapest’s City Park, was built for the millennium of Hungary and is a favorite gathering place for locals and visitors.
Situated close to the city center, Városliget offers visitors a host of things to see and do. Completed in 1896, in time for a variety of celebrations marking 1,000 years of Hungarian history, this 1.2-square-km (302 acre) park has everything you need for an enjoyable day, from a pretty pond to a number of interesting historic sites.

The park's main entrance is through Heroes’ Square, one of Hungary’s World Heritage sites. At the square, you’ll find the Millennium Monument, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Palace of Art, all worth a visit. The latter is considered to be the finest exhibition hall in Hungary.

City Park was the main venue of the 1896 millennium celebrations of Hungary, by which time Andrássy Avenue, Millennium Underground and the Grand Boulevard were built.

TO SEE IN BUDAPEST CITY PARK

The best way to explore the park is to take walk from its one end (Vajdahunyad Castle) to the other end (Zoo).

Numerous walkways run across Városliget so you can leisurely stroll in the park and admire its attractions. Families with toddlers can easily walk around with pushchairs and the disabled will have little problem to get about too.

Walking at Vajdahunyad Castle at the Heroes' Square end of the park. The wonderful edifice constructed for the 1896 Millennial Exhibition is a mixture of several architectural styles. Today the Castle Houses the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture.

The Széchenyi Bath, one of the largest spas in Europe offers great relaxation for the whole family both in a hot summer day or in winter.

Opposite the Széchenyi Baths you'll find the Budapest's top three places of enetertainment for kids:

1) Budapest Amusement Park: modern and traditional rides, including some unique historic ones, Children's Garden for kids under 10

2) The Grand Circus, the only permanent circus in Central Europe: circus performances, sport events, concerts, operette and dance shows.

3) Budapest Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in the world: wide varietyof animals, remarkable buildings, lots of green.
